My nickname is AI3 because all the guys I hoop it up with say I try (and I
emphasize try) to play like Iverson. I am in grad school at Auburn
University working on my PhD in Civil Engineering, so I love the Hoyas
because basketball in south Alabama is a joke.
I became a Hoya fan back in the glory days of the mid-1980s. The year I bought my first Hoya shirt and hat was in 1984, so I guess that was when I became a true fan. When I started following the Hoyas, my favorite player was Reggie Williams (who
could not love Reggie and the Miracles during the 1986 season). After
Reggie graduated, Charles Smith was my main man. But neither one of them
compare to Alonzo Mourning for me. He is my all time favorite Hoya.
The moment from Hoya basketball that is my favorite was in the 1988 NCAA Tourney
when the Hoyas entered the tourney as the #8 seed and played LSU (led by
Jose Vargas) in the first round. Charles Smith, the man who was told he
would only be a defensive specialist for the Hoyas, hit the last second shot
to when the game and send the Hoyas to the next round. Alonzo Mourning's
block of Kit Mueller in the opening round of the 1989 NCAA Tourney to seal
the win against Princeton is a close second. The worst moment in Hoya hoops
for me was sitting courtside at the Georgia Dome, and watching UMass totally
dominate Allen, Victor, and boys in 1996 for the Final Four bid. It's time
to get pumped up for this season as the next Hoya star Anthony Perry takes
this team to the next level.

I am a partner in the Los Angeles office of an international
law firm. I grew up in the LA area, and have lived in Los Angeles
since I graduated from GULC in 1992. I attended both college (SBA '89) and law
school at Georgetown. My friends and I co-founded "Rejection Row"
during the Mourning/Mutombo years. I saw the Hoyas win the National Championship in Seattle when I was a junior in high school, and watched the Hoyas lose to Villanova in the NCAA finals the following year in Kentucky, a state that has not been kind to us (I also watched Reggie and the Miracles lose to Providence in the '87 Final Eight in Louisville during my sophomore
year at GU). My favorite Hoya moment was the 1989 BET my senior year, where we
routed the field (including Syracuse in the Finals). Watching the
Hoyas win twice in the Carrier Dome also was epic. My least favorite moments
were the entire 1989 NCAAs, where we barely beat Princeton in Providence, barely
beat ND in Providence (on St. Patty's day), and eventually lost to Duke in
the Meadowlands after having beaten "Fire and Ice," NC State. At each of
those four games, all attendees except the Hoya backers not only rooted
against us, but hated us.

I went to all of the home games as well as the BE

was when we manhandled 'Nova at US Air in 1996, but my
most painful was a few weeks later when we lost to
UConn in the BE finals. Although the last few years
have been lean, it looks like the Hoyas of old have returned.

I graduated from the College in 1994 and the Law Center in 1997, and
am now a business lawyer with an Atlanta-based firm. My favorite time
as a Hoya had to be the G'town/UConn classic at U.S. Air in '96. A
group of recent alums at the time chartered a bus to and from the game.
Inspired by Iverson's memorable game (Rudi Johnson, look out below!), the
return trip to campus featured 20 or so drunkards gathered 'round the
keg, incessantly belting out the worst version of Mariah Carey's
"Fantasy" that you ever heard.
Runners-up: Duke game in '91 BE/ACC challenge and Joey Brown's
buzzer-beater against Chris Smith and UConn in '92. Worst moment: Also in
'92, Malcolm Huckaby scores 40 to lead BC over 'Zo and the boys in
overtime. I still can't believe we lost that game

that quickly changed (although there will always be a place in my heart for
the Johnnies, as long as they are not playing the Hoyas). My best Hoya
memory was beating 'Cuse in last year's Big East Tournament. After the game, my
friend and I smoked stogies and drank orange juice in front of MSG, still in our
band shirts. Then we did a victory lap around the Garden and came across a
very sad looking group of 'Cuse bball players boarding the bus. What a feeling!

Favorite players: Reggie Williams, Jerome Williams, Robert Chruchwell,
Jaren Jackson, David Wingate, and of course, Allen Iverson. Favorite games:
I absolutely love the Big East tournament, especially when we play Syracuse.
Favorite moments: Talking trash to 'Nova fans at '96 home game when we trounced them; watching Iverson dunk on UConn's Kirk King (who had 6 inches and 40 pounds on #3). I think both student and alumni fan support has been lacking in recent years. I think this site is a great way to promote better support, even if the program is rebuilding.

A Georgetown alumnus since May 2002, I have been a Hoyas BBall fan since as long as I can remember b/c of the Ewing factor (i'm from ny). Despite a mildly successful run in my four years at school, the Hoyas provided some great thrills. I'll never forget storming the court after defeating unranked Lousville my freshman year (hey, we needed something to be excited about), the UVA triumph in the NIT my sophomore year, Nat Burton's drive at the buzzer to beat Arkansas in our Sweet 16 run my junior year, or the 4 OT fiasco against the Irish my senior year (where I pounded a beer on the fan of the game camera, only to be DQ'd...ah college). Now out of school, I'm still big into GTown hoops, if only to ease the crushing burden of working in the corporate world. But given our play of late, I don't know why I even bother...every game ends with me feeling like I have been kicked in the crotch.
And so I eagerly await the Matt Causey era...

this isn't to exclude anyone else, that Jerome Williams is my favorite player. With him there weren't
really any moments per se, but just constant efforts and work play after play. Nobody expected
anything from him in a way, and he more than delivered.

Although I am a Villanova fan, I enjoy all the
Big East teams and have a great deal of respect for the Georgetown program. My favorie Hoyas were Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutombo
because of the way they dominated the paint inside and Alan Iverson because of his elctrifying play and I am glad he and Dikembe are
playing for the Philadelphia 76ers. My favorite Hoya moments were when you guys won the NCAA's in 1984 because your team became the first from the Big
East to win an NCAA championship, and your victories over North Carolina and Duke in the Big East challenge in 1989 and 1990. I always enjoy
seeing any Big East team beat someone from the ACC. I think the Hoyas are definitely going to be good for the next couple of years and I
always look forward to the Georgetown-Villanova game.

I'm a Hoya fan since 1978 when I was 10 years old. Since 1983 I've had season tickets every year but
one. My father is a professor at Georgetown and has been for over 30 years. He started taking my brother
and I to games and I've been a diehard fan ever since. This only intensified when I started going to
Georgetown in 1986. I graduated from SBA in 1990, and the year after was my one year not to have season
tickets, because I thought I wouldn't have time since I was in public accounting. The next year I decided my
need to see Hoya basketball was too great and I could work it out with my job. I've had season tickets ever
since. Currently, me, my wife (SFS 90), my daughter, my father, and my wife's parents have season tickets
and you will find us at every game.

From 1990-1998, my dad and I attended every Hoya game at Syracuse.
We were there the two or three times the 'Cuse fans set the record for most
fans at one game. My favorite Hoyas would have to be Boubacar Aw, and the great
Joseph Tuomou. I remember watching Joe T. his freshman or sophmore year playing
the greatest defense (before his knees gave out) in Syracuse.
He complememted Iverson well. My favorite Hoya game would have to be the first
game I saw at the Carrier Dome with my dad...what an atmosphere! GO HOYAS!!!!

I can honestly not remember a time when the Hoyas were the only team I
loved. I grew up in Connecticut, and like most residents of the state
of Connecticut the 1980's were a good time for me. The Hoyas ran the Big
East, we had the best recruits, always went far into the tournament, and we
always beat Uconn. I abhor the Uconn Huskies as well. My mother on the other
hand is a diehard Uconn fan. My most distinct memory of G-Town came when the
Hoyas beat the Uconn Huskies at the Hartford Civic Center, and I was
the only Hoyas fan in the entire arena. I was so proud of myself that I
withstood the taunts from opposing fans, but they were my relatives so
I really had to forgive them.
The 1990's have been a sad time for me, and for you other Hoya fans as well. But we are back, and we are bad as ever. I have stood by the team during the dark ages and it is only appropriate that we take back the crown this year in the Big East tourney. I am lucky now to live so close to D.C., so I am going to purchase season tickets from this year until I no longer am physically able to walk. What rocks? Honestly people I have been waiting for a site like this to exchange views with
people who love Hoya Hoops as much as I do. GO GU

Being a passionate Villanova fan on a Georgetown
board will carry a lot of weight, right?
Still, I like talking college hoops with anybody.
DFW Hoya has visited our site before and I've seen
some excellent give-and-take on your board.
My favorite moment should be obvious. But rather
than rub it in, I thought you might get a kick out
of what happened to yours truly that amazing night.
I had been away from my Catholic faith for some
14 years, having received Holy Communion last on
Easter Sunday, 1971. Anyhow, my adopted parish church, St. Lawrence
O'Toole, in Pittsburgh, gave me the royal carpet
treatment during Holy Week. My first confession in half a generation was a
gem. "Bless me, Father, for I have sinned...it has
been 14 years since..." etc., etc. The usual.
Toward the end, however, events took a most -- eh,
unique spin. I finished off the Act of Contrition, Father gave
me my absolution, finally saying (knowing who I
was, of course, despite the crowded Holy Week
conditions). "Go and sin no more. Say three 'Our Fathers', etc.
...and take Villanova plus the 9 1/2 points!"
Who couldn't like a guy like that?
Anyhow, that was a game for all times, one where
it was -- I know, little or no consolation even
today for Hoya fans, but... -- a game with no real
loser.
Forget that Duke-Kentucky offense-a-thon in the
Spectrum, or N.C. State's stunner over Houston.
If there was EVER a better college game than that
one, I sure as hell haven't seen it. And you guys
were a huge part of that. In reality, we owe you
a debt of congratulations and gratitude.
It'll always hurt, but you certainly deserve your
place in hoops history with that '82 heartbreaker
(if Freddie B gets that ball to Ewing, el Deano
might have been looking for his FIRST title a lot
longer), plus that strong '84 effort.
And now the Big Guy's in the Hall of Fame. Bask
in the glow, Georgetown, you deserve it. I think
Esherick will bring you most of the way back, too.
My toughest VU moment vs. G'town? That coyote-ugly
38 point loss your one guy liked above. Thompson
knew we were in a 4 games in 7 days stretch vs.
some of the nation's best. He and his team
did not miss their opportunity.
A couple of other losses -- the two in '85, one
in OT, the other in the last minute to the Hoyas.
The big wins: Pinckney's sophomore year at the
Palestra in front of a highly-partisan home crowd.
Last year, before 19,000+ at F.U.C. in what was
essentially a Villanova pep rally.
My favorite positive Georgetown moment: The year
you went into the Carrier Dome, the crazies stand-
ing and clapping rhythmically...and standing...and
standing...
While G'town ran off 19 straight points and put
Syracuse's lights out in the first half. People
started leaving at halftime.
Good luck with your site. Good luck next season
(except, of course one or two dates).

Class of '84, living in Dallas. I've followed the Hoyas since the 1980-1981 season and try to get to DC to attend 2-3 games each year, plus the Big East tournament, a regular occasion for far too many years to discuss.
Favorite all-time players? Gene Smith, Eric Floyd, Patrick Ewing. Greatest GU moment? There are two.
2. The '84 Final Four. A group of us were sitting at the open practice session that weekend in Seattle, arguing amongst some friends if we were really ready to face
mighty Kentucky. A voice from behind in the next row asks us "Whaddya worried about? You guys are going all the way." That voice was Jim Valvano.
1. The '82 Final Four. I had a press pass through The HOYA and was covering the North Carolina-Houston semifinal, determined to see one game in the good seats before retreating to the student section for the Louisville game. Six minutes into the game, UNC is comfortably leading Houston and the Superdome is fairly quiet. All of a sudden, a sustained roar builds from the
end zone to the left of the press area, and no one for sure quite knows what is going on. Heads are turning on press row to see what is going on. I look over and see the solitary figure of John Thompson quietly walking out of the tunnel to catch a few minutes of the first game in the seats by the band, with the cascades of a standing ovation of the entire Superdome endzone surrounding him. It still brings chills just thinking about it.

I'm a Canadian who got interested in Hoya hoops while taking my
MBA at Georgetown. Before that, my hoops interest was limited to being the
mascot at my undergrad U.'s basketball games. Haven't seen the team live in a
while as road trips to D.C. have been severely curtailed by the arrival
of my 2 year old, but I'm hoping to get down and see the Hoyas at the new
MCI Center soon.

A large part of my college experience at Georgetown was centered
around following the men's basketball program. As time has gone on I find
myself interested even more in the athlethic programs at GU in general, even
though men's basketball is still the center of my attention. I am a very
positive supporter of GU.
As to my bio, I was raised overseas in Nigeria and Indonesia and then went to high school in Denver, Colorado. I graduated from the SFS in 1989 and then went to teach English for a year in the
PRC.
I went to law school at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. My professional career has been focused on the development of international energy projects.

Proud to go to the games when Iverson lit it up, and
proud to go to the games when we get embarrassed by UConn.
Just cherishing the last few games in the privileged student seats, and
hoping for
the NIT.

I graduated from GU in '87. I don't think I missed many home games in my four years at the hilltop. I remember my second day at school, during freshman orientation, I went up to Yates for the first time to check it out. I was shooting hoops on one basket and another guy was shooting at the other end. We were the only ones at Yates it seemed. I noticed the guy at the other end was not missing any shots, so I went over to check him out. I started to rebound for him and fed him the ball. We chatted casually and he was real nice. A bit on the shy side. It was Reggie! What a smooth stroke. I currently reside in NYC where I work as an investment advisor. The world still stops when the Hoyas are on the tube.

While at Georgetown I broadcast men's and women's
basketball on WGTB (Yes it does exist). I also did a sports show with MEGAFAN
(now the penultimate fan on the site). I saw 29-8 and 15-16 while at
G'town and have been a fan the entire way. Go Hoyas.

I am a graduate of the Law Center in 1965, with an LLM in
Taxation in 1966. I am a partner in the Chicago office of a large international
law firm. My claim to fame is that I am the dad (POPS) of Angus.
My favorite memories are attending the games while Angus was at Georgetown. Angus
and
his friends would use my season tickets to get early access to the
Arena to
locate in the first row behind the basket. When not attending the
games, I
was sure to see Angus and his friends rooting their hearts out on the
TV
games. Both of my sons and I were in Seattle and that was assuredly
the
highlight of our Hoya games although we did see quite a few road games.
We
saw Chris Jackson destroy us in his first game and I also saw AI in his
first game. In addition to Seattle, I saw the Hoys lose to NC in New
Orleans and Nova in Lexington. When the Hoyas were playing well, Angus
and
I made most of the NCAA tournament games.

Nickname borrowed from wise old Ya Ya, whom I respect greatly.
I'm a professional in NYC who graduated from the School of Business (undergrad) in 1996. I've been a fan since 1992 (freshman year)
and have been die hard ever since - that's why you won't hear me refer to
the great decade of the '80s too much (although I respect the history and glory of the program).
Favorite players would probably be Othella, Allen, Jerome, and Don since those were the guys
I got to see play during my four years. Favorite moment would have to be Don's flip-shot basket
as time expired to beat Weber St. in the first round of the 1995 tournament. I will never forget JT's dancing after that shot.

I've been a fan and season ticket holder since 1989 when I started
B-school at Georgetown. Having grown up in upstate New York where
everybody roots for the Cuse, I now spar with many of my childhood friends
over who is the best team in the Big East. I'd have to say my favorite
moment over the past ten years was the game back at the old Cap Centre
where Hoya point guard Joey Brown dribbled the length of the floor and
made the winning lay up with about a second left on the clock -- the
place went wild and he became my all-time favorite Hoya. We sure could
use a point guard like him these days.

Grew up just outside D.C., and have been a Hoya fan since late seventies.
Was a season ticket-holder in the glory years of the mid/late eighties.
Have attended every Big East Tourney since '87, although the last ten years have been cruelly frustrating.
My heart broke more than a little in '96, when Ray Allen hit that leaner and Jerome missed his
layup.
Looking forward to the day (hopefully soon) when the Hoyas break the string of futility in the tourney,
as it is one of the highlights of my year. Currently in grad school in Boston. Favorite Hoyas:
Jaren, Reggie, Patrick (of course), Joey Brown, Othella, Sleepy, Smitty.
Favorite games: Kentucky ('84), Syracuse Big East final ('87, '89), Duke ('90).
