The Quadrangle (1792) |
|
For much of the first century years of the school, its buildings were centered around a single quadrangle, first by the [Old] South Building in 1792. Additions followed in the [Old] North Building (1795), followed in the 19th Century by Gervase (1830), Mulledy (1832), the Preparatory Building (1854, later named Maguire), Healy (1877), and Dahlgren Chapel (1893).
Additional change followed in the 20th Century. Old South was torn down and replaced by Ryan Hall (1904), and the North Building was extended in 1925 to what is now known as New North. For 80 years, however, the quadrangle has seen little outward change, and was renovated in time for the University bicentennial in 1989, when the above fountain was added.
