U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin today issued the following statement regarding the war with Iraq:

"My thoughts and prayers are with our brave men and women serving in our nation's armed forces and their families here at home. I pray that this conflict will end quickly and that our fine troops and the innocent people in Iraq will be spared.

"War is always a terrible option for any nation to contemplate, but regardless of where we stood as individuals prior to the start of this conflict, those on the front lines now deserve nothing less than our unqualified support.

"In the coming days, the Administration will ask Congress for additional funds to carry out the disarmament of Iraq, and I will work to ensure that our troops have every possible resource to complete their mission and return home safely."
